They often say, there’s nothing but time in a Nantucket winter, and yet, never enough time to ever get it all done.
Ain’t that the truth. We all look at the word April in November like it’s as far away as China, but then March comes around and we’re all left staring at each other in disbelief thinking… “It’s almost Daffy Weekend?!”
Ah, but so is life here on Nantucket… an island with a fabulous summer season that will be upon us in no time. And we all love gearing up for the warm months!
So what’s new on the Grey Lady for the summer of 2013? Here’s what has been “in the works” this winter:
The owners of American Seasons, Orla and Michael Lascola, took over the Demarco’s building on 9 India Street, renamed it “The Proprietors” and are turning it into a new restaurant. (Read the Mahon About Town article here: http://archive.constantcontact.com/fs105/1101124411333/archive/1112435845298.html)
Marco Coehlo, the ever so talented restaurateur of LoLa 41 and Pazzo, is reopening “LoLa Burger” at the “Rotary” location come this spring. Burgers + beers at that spot sounds like a perfect après-beach spot to me.
The owners of the Centerboard Inn, Paul and Lauri Benk, have taken over 76 Centre Street, giving this classic building a super fresh look, and a new name “THE REGATTA”. It’s set to open June 15th.
Speaking of Inn makeovers, The Union Street Inn has taken this off-season to revamp their entire inside as well as their garden area! (And by the way, this gem of a boutique Inn has the most delicious breakfast included in each night of their stay! Eggs Benny! Buttermilk pancakes! Bagels and Lox!)
While there hasn’t been much buzz about new boutiques, last year brought to the island a slew of stylish hot spots like Dakota on Old South Wharf, Monelle on Candle Street, and The Lovely on Washington Street, all set to open bACK up this April.
Jessica Hicks of POSH on 4 South Beach Street closed her jewelry boutique and changed her name… well bACK to her original name! She moved her store and studio to 2 Union Street (the former Brooke Boothe Design & Monogramming) and is now running under “JESSICA HICKS”.
Lisa Paone, owner of NALU on 44 Main Street recently closed her location. She is currently in search of another spot downtown. No word what will go in her place… yet.
